History of Women in SAHP
In 2024, the San Andreas government elected Matilda Plymouth as the new acting Commissioner of the San Andreas Highway Patrol. This marks a milestone in the history of the San Andreas Highway Patrol. Long time before, if women wanted to work for the San Andreas Highway Patrol, regulations said they could only work in non-officers jobs.
Several womens challenged those regulations and the Women Traffic Trooper Project was created. The Project was considered as a two-year experiment to determine whether women were able to effectively perform state troopers duties.
Back in the 70s, for the first time, female cadets entered the SAHP Academy alongside their male counterparts. By the end of the Academy, a female Cadet, Deborah Street, had captured the pistol shooting award with a perfect score. The Women Traffic Trooper Project class proved that women could complete the grueling Academy training.
The female graduates of that first class, any the many that followed in subsequent classes, showed that women perform the job on a equal level and footing with their male colleagues. Once, a honorable Ceremony keynote speaker said: "You carry a heavy burden of responsibility because all eyes are upon you while you are advancing the cause of opportunity for all women." Since the 70s, women have served in every aspect of the SAHP, from riding motorcycles and flying aircraft to taking on tactical roles.
The San Andreas Highway Patrol salutes the commitment and dedication of all of the women who attended and graduated from the pioneer Women Traffic Trooper Project class. Because of their efforts, women are able to share the proud tradition of uniformed members of the San Andreas Highway Patrol.
