SHERIFF DEPARTMENT

ADMINISTRATIVE DECREE #003

Administrative Decree #003

Effective immediately, all members of the Sheriff’s Department must practice proper respect and professional address in formal settings, ceremonies and other official departmental interactions.

Acknowledgement of Superiors:
  • When the Sheriff or any other member of Supervision, Command Staff and Executive Staff enters a room during formal events ( roll call, ceremonies, training sessions or briefings), deputies must acknowledge their presence through proper posture, facing the high ranking member or through verbal greeting.
  • This doesn't have to be a constant salute or action outside formal contexts, but simply a demonstration of professional respect for that member.
Mutual Respect Across Ranks:
  • High ranking deputies are expected to treat lower ranking deputies with professionalism and common courtesy.
  • Likewise, deputies must address high ranking deputies by rank and last name (Captain Smith) or with sir/ma’am.
Usage of First Names:
  • Informal use of first names for superiors is prohibited in formal settings and over radio communications.
  • Formal settings include Ceremonies, Rollcalls, Department Meetings, Training/Academy Sessions.

This decree only applies specifically to formal occasions, ceremonies, briefings, and official departmental meetings. All other casual or informal interactions outside of formal settings do not require this strict protocol, but basic respect is expected to be followed at all times.
